Accentuating the global nature of the hip hop community, Cold Busted fam Es-K, The Deli, Jansport J met in Madrid, Spain, to record an ambitious new project. Convening for the occasion of a Spanish release party for the Es-K album ReCollection, a studio and temporary home was constructed and the work began. Inspiration was rampant — collaborations with local MCs and curious visitors added weight to the project as creatives from around the world unified to create shared art. The result is the forthcoming album Amparo, and “La Guinda” is the first taste.

Translated to English as ‘cherry on the top,’ “La Guinda” came together on the final day of recording. Los Angeles rapper Slim Jeff and Madrid MC Wezt MAAD were also present and added serious vocal flavor. Slim Jeff introduces the players and lays down smooth flow, then Wezt MAAD represents the locale with slick verses in his native language. The bilingual collaboration is propelled by the three producers’ tough but easy music bed, all jazzy chords, snapping beats, and captured phrases. The track may end up on Amparo in a different form but, for now, this exclusive 7” version captures the magic moment when these true heads laid it down proper in Spain.
